Massage Therapy

massage therapy

Massage therapy consists of hands-on mobilization of the soft tissues of the body (muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments, fascia) for the purpose of optimizing health.  Massage therapy helps to restore the natural balance in the body directly through the mechanical manipulation of the soft tissues and indirectly through the soothing effects of touch on the autonomic nervous system. These techniques may include:

  • Myofascial release
  • Trigger point therapy
  • Deep tissue massage
  • Lymphatic drainage

Pelvic Health Physiotherapy

pelvic health therapy

Pelvic health or pelvic floor physiotherapists are trained to assess and treat a variety of conditions and symptoms involving either the male or female pelvis. These conditions include incontinence, organ prolapse and pelvic pain. The floor of the bony pelvis is composed of muscles, fascia, nerves and ligaments. These structures support the internal pelvic organs, control bladder and bowel function, stabilize the back, hips, and pelvis, and maintain healthy sexual function.

A thorough assessment including a detailed subjective history and an external and internal musculoskeletal exam will be performed in order to customize a treatment plan to address your specific goals and optimize your well-being. Treatment may consist of manual techniques, education, modalities, therapeutic exercises, behavioural strategies, and functional re-training.

Vestibular Rehabilitation

Vestibular Rehabilitation Services

Vestibular physiotherapists are trained to assess and treat a variety of conditions involving the vestibular system (inner ear). When the vestibular system is impaired, people can experience spinning (vertigo), dizziness, nausea, imbalance, visual disturbances, and light-headedness.

At Uxbridge Physiotherapy, our staff will perform an assessment using medically validated techniques to accurately diagnose the reasons why you are dizzy. The assessment involves a comprehensive history of your symptoms, followed by tests to determine the causes of your dizziness. This leads to an individualized treatment plan, which may involve manual therapy of the neck and head, education, position correction, and home exercises.

Conditions that can be treated include:

  • Vertigo
  • Dizziness related to neck pain or whiplash
  • Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo
  • Post-concussion syndrome
  • Meniere’s disease
  • Labrynthitis
  • Vestibular neuritis
  • Imbalance and risk of falls

Important Information Regarding Your Visit

Please arrive 15 minutes ahead of your appointment to complete the necessary intake forms, and bring any relevant medical documents with you.

The assessment procedures will reproduce your symptoms, so you may experience an increase in dizziness and/or nausea following your first visit. Most clients are able to function normally following the assessment. However you may want to have someone accompany you to the appointment.

Custom Bracing

We provide custom knee braces made to measure your exact leg size.

These braces are rigid, double-hinged and light-weight, and are covered by most health insurance plans. Measurements are made without making a cast mold of your leg. Most braces will arrive two weeks after we take your measurements.

Our team will discuss and ensure the brace fits properly, and will educate you on it’s use and wear. The most common conditions we provide custom braces for are ACL deficient knees/post-op ACL reconstruction and de-loader braces for knee osteoarthritis.

Virtual Appointments

Virtual appointments are an option for Physiotherapy services when in-person visits are not possible.  Our experienced Physiotherapists are able to provide assessments, education and treatment via either videoconferencing or over the phone.  We use a secure, encrypted platform to maintain the same patient confidentiality as if clients were in our clinic.  You simply need an iPad, laptop or desktop computer, or a smartphone, with a camera and microphone, for your appointments.  Clients are advised to carry out their rehabilitation in a private space at home or the office, free of distractions and enough room to move around.  Follow-up instructions and exercise programs can be emailed to clients after the appointment, and billing is carried out electronically.  Virtual treatment includes exercise prescription, self-treatment techniques, posture advice and important education about the client’s injury and its management.
